But the influences are combined in a way that make "Offscourings" a truly unique standout release from 2021. There is just a level of passion and craft that is not found in your everyday independent release. Give this one a listen or five - this shit is an addictive monster that gets better each time I hear it. Hard props.

This is my favorite album by Mexican death metal stalwarts The Chasm, by a wide margin. All the meandering, proggy excursions of previous releases have been brutally curtailed in favor of mountains on mountains of riffs, and the result is a release that is tighter and more focused than any of their output in the last decade+. Consider my interest renewed. Patiently awaiting the next one.
